Approaches and Hazards: Note the sandbar on the east side of the harbor - marked by a light. Keep to mid channel if possible. Inside the harbor are shallow areas near shoreline. Use caution when approaching or departing the public float at Jerish Park. This area is dredged along the float but not further out. The narrow entrance (less than 200 feet) is near the lighthouse at the tip of the sandspit. The entrance channel is 10 feet deep in the center at low tide. There are strong currents at tidal changes and heavy traffic.

Anchorage and Moorage: The central harbor provides good anchorage on a mud bottom. There is not an abundance of moorage - much of it is used by commercial fishing boats. The visitor may be able to find available permanent space that is free on a per-night basis. Some restaurants have floats for use by their patrons. The public dock at Jerish Park - on the south shore - is a good option and allows for up to a 24 hour stay. Transient moorage can also be found at the south side marinas. A launch ramp is located at the end of Randall road.

Shore Activities and Interests: Shopping and restaurants galore. Jerish Park - named for the first Euro-settler in the area - provides picnic facilities and a float for visitors. Visit the Peninsula Historical Museum, open Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday from noon to four p.m. Several marinas can be found on the south shore of the harbor with transient moorage and a wide variety of supplies. The Farmer's Market is a fine spot for re provisioning the galley. Open May through October on Saturdays. The Art Festival is in mid July, the Jazz Festival is in August and the Christmas Boat Parade is (surprise) in December.
